Hi Matt,

Although our political views differ a bit, you gave me some interesting food for thought. I consider myself a student first and foremost, and I try to keep an open mind. You and your brother Mike are incredible writers.
Let us know when you're back in Idaho. We'd love to see you. BTW, I'll put a link to your site on ours.

By "that", I presume that you are referring to one of the pictures on my how-to-vacation post. The answer is: no, it's not amanoka villa, but it's close. About 200 yards down the road.

Discovery Bay itself is a little sleepy, but that's actually sort of nice. One word of warning: it's possible that directly across the bay from your villa, there will be a huge container ship docked. It can happen in Discovery Bay, which is a working port.

The water is lovely, and there are tons of things to do fairly nearby. Just east of town there is a nice cave system, and a guided tour (via rowboat) of the cave is fun. My son and I had a great time snorkeling by simply asking the cook at our villa to find us someone to take us. We ended up on this entirely deserted bay in a leaky rowboat with a fisherman named Salvan, and it was a blast. We saw a huge ray and a sizeable nurse shark, in addition to all of the normal stuff. I think we paid Salvan something like $40 to take us, and he even provided the equipment.

My advice would be different than the normal guidebooks: Don't avoid all the people trying to sell you stuff. We bought some great lobster from a guy who had just left the water at the edge of the bay and was trying to sell them on his walk home. We also just had interesting conversations with local people, who are really nice and fun to talk with.

Have a great time! We really loved it there.

Hello Matt! Congrats on the wedding! Wish we could have been there. I don't want to see your face, but I like to see the kids'! They're much cuter!
Love you anyway, Kelli (and Jake)

As a first time visitor to this web blog and the author's views, I have to admit that I am impressed. I cannot remember when I have read articles that are so well written and thought-out. It takes a lot to impress me, especially when the author is my soon to be son-in-law. Kudos to you (and I’m not talking about the Mars granola bar).

Keep up the good work. It helps me sort things out (oh no, a sentence ending in a preposition). You thinking through all the issues instead of me over-thinking them; I like it!!!!!
